the use of natural honey (nh) as a nutraceutical agent is associated with nutritional benefits and therapeutic promises. nh is widely accepted as food and medicine by all generations, traditions and civilizations, both ancient and modern. the nutritional profiles, including its use in infant and children feeding reported in different literatures as well as health indices and biomarkers observed by various researchers are illustrated in this manuscript. the review documents folk medicine, experimentation with animal models, and orthodox medical practices shown by clinical trials. this covers virtually all human organs and body systems extensively studied by different workers. the sources and adverse effects of nh contamination, as well as the preventive methods are identified. this could promote the availability of residue free honey and a wholesome natural product for domestic consumption and international market. this could also help to prevent health problems associated with nh poisoning. in addition, apicultural practices and the economic importance of honey are well documented. this report also includes information about a relatively unknown and uncommon south american stingless bee species. we concluded this review by identifying important roles for ethno-entomologists, other scientists and apiculturists in the development of stingless bees to boost honey production, consumption and economic earnings.

background colistin is a polymyxin antibiotic which has been used for treatment of gram-negative infections, but it was withdrawn due to its nephrotoxicity. however, colistin has gained its popularity in recent years due to the reemergence of multidrug resistant gram-negative infections and drug-induced toxicity is considered as the main obstacle for using this valuable antibiotic. results in total, 30 articles, including 29 animal studies and one clinical trial were included in this study. these compounds, including aged black garlic extract, albumin fragments, alpha lipoic acid, astaxanthin, baicalein, chrysin, cilastatin, colchicine, curcumin, cytochrome c, dexmedetomidine, gelofusine, grape seed proanthocyanidin extract, hesperidin, luteolin, lycopene, melatonin, methionine, n-acetylcysteine, silymarin, taurine, vitamin c, and vitamin e exhibited beneficial effects in most of the published works. conclusions in this review, the authors have attempted to review the available literature on the use of several compounds for prevention or attenuation of colistin-induced nephrotoxicity. most of the studied compounds were potent antioxidants, and it seems that using antioxidants concomitantly can have a protective effect during the colistin exposure.
the number of gout patients of japanese people increased 5.12-fold from 1986 to 2022 (1986: 0.255 million; 2022: 1.306 million). the aim of this article is to suggest what micronutrient intake is important for the prevention of gout in japanese people in 2022 referencing the results of clinical research reported. the author used the data of the comprehensive survey of living conditions in japan for the number of gout patients (1986-2022) and the data of the national health and nutrition survey in japan (1946-2022) for the intake of micronutrients. micronutrient intake of japanese people in 2022 were compared with those in 2019. the relationship between the number of gout patients and micronutrient intake in japanese people was examined. the daily intake of micronutrients of japanese people in 2022 were evaluated using dietary reference intakes. the daily intake of vitamin e, vitamin k, and pantothenic acid of japanese people in 2022 were higher compared to those in 2019, respectively. whereas the daily intake of vitamin a, vitamin d, vitamin b2, niacin, vitamin b6, folate, vitamin b12, vitamin c, sodium, salt, calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper, and zinc of japanese people in 2022 were lower compared to those in 2019. the daily intake of vitamin b1 of japanese people in 2022 was the same as that in 2019. the daily intake of vitamin a, vitamin d, vitamin e, vitamin b1, vitamin b2, folate, vitamin b12, vitamin c, salt, calcium, iron, and copper were negatively correlated with the number of gout patients, respectively. the daily niacin intake was positively correlated with the number of gout patients. modification of micronutrient intake for the prevention of gout in japanese people (especially adults) in 2022 is suggested as follows: limiting or decreasing intake of sodium and salt; decreasing intake of niacin; decreasing or pay attention to not to excessive intake of vitamin k, pantothenic acid, vitamin b12, phosphorus, and copper; increase intake of vitamin a, vitamin d, vitamin e, vitamin b1, vitamin b6, folate, calcium, potassium, and magnesium; increase intake of vitamin b2 in japanese men (aged 15-59 years) and women (aged 15-49 years), vitamin c in japanese men (aged 20-59 years) and women (aged 20-49 years), iron in japanese men (aged 20-59 years) and women (aged 20-69 years, ≥ 75 years), and zinc in japanese men (aged ≥ 20 years) and women (aged 20-69 years, aged ≥ 80 years).
